C.S. Lewis and Uniqueness

Here is a good quote from C.S. Lewis:

"Why else were individuals created, but that God, loving all infinitely, should love each differently?"

We are each wired differently.

As my pastor says, "We are unique. That is not a testament to us. It's a testament to our Creator." And it means we can worship God in a way that is unique. But it also means that God will relate to us in a unique way.

Why do churches implement rigid, one-size-fits-all discipleship programs? If God relates to each person differently, and he has wired us differently, why don't we view those differences as a positive force to be harnessed as opposed to a negative force to be managed? We should harness the diversity in the Body of Christ to create new opportunities for people to connect with God. Why do we force all of our small group leaders to manage groups that look exactly alike?

Wineskins for Discipleship

"New wine must be stored in new wineskins."

Jesus' command to go make disciples is timeless. But the structures and methods for fulfilling that commission change from generation to generation.

This blog is a discussion for pastors and church leaders who are exploring new ways to make disciples. The only thing that is sacred is the mission. Small group models are not sacred. Sunday School systems are not sacred. Certain curriculum is not sacred. The only thing that is sacred is the mission- to make disciples.
