What is John Hasler?
Alright, this guy named John has been lurking around the NCC offices for a few years now. We know who he is-- he is a passionate Christ follower whose heart beats and bleeds for the poor, the hungry, the sick, the less fortunate (no wonder he's a Cubs fan).We know what he does- he is my right-hand man on discipleship and small group initiatives at NCC. He leads, he teaches, he casts vision, he navigates leaders through the group registration process, he leads missions teams.
We just don't know what that is called. So the deep, penetrating question of the day:
What is John Hasler?
He's not an assistant discipleship pastor. That's too sterile and lame. If anyone knows what John Hasler might be, please cast your vote in the comment section.
Explanation: Just to make things clear. We need a job title for John Hasler that is as cool as he is. We've never landed on anything. If you come up with something creative and we use it, you will win a moonpie. Or something. Maybe a copy of my upcoming book.

the 5th st. house always called him haslerhoff because of his love of Germany and the Germans love of David Hasselhoff...
I vote for Minister of Justice. It sounds tough and "Sweet Child of Mine" can play everytime he gets up to speak in church.
I think Minister of Justice sounds a bit like a tv wrestler's name. :o) So if part of his job description includes body slamming people who aren't compassionate or growing enough... Or maybe a right fist of fellowship?
What is NCC's standard format? Pastor of ____, ___ Pastor, _____ Minister?
And if John had to boil down what he does to three things - what would they be?
I only met John briefly at the Willow Group Life Conference in October, and I've been following his blog for the past month or so. Here's my suggestion:
Coordinator of Compassion
Before you knock it down as being too tame. See what Wikipedia has to say about the world compassion:
"Compassion is a profound human emotion prompted by the pain of others. More vigorous than empathy, the feeling commonly gives rise to an active desire to alleviate another's suffering. It is often, though not inevitably, the key component in what manifests in the social context as altruism. In ethical terms, the various expressions down the ages of the so-called Golden Rule embody by implication the principle of compassion: Do to others as you would have done to you. Ranked a great virtue in numerous philosophies, compassion is considered in all the major religious traditions as among the greatest of virtues."
From what I've seen of John Hasler, I think this just may fit.
I must add that John Hasler is an amazing office mate and health buddy. Hasler is an all around great human being that i have honor serving with everyday.

Heather was once Community Coordinator. Maybe John can be the Communisty Coordinator.
